Space Elevators

Freebie of the day - Colgate Maxfresh

Space Elevators
" Space elevators - a futuristic idea in which space is accessed via long tethers with the power needed being transmitted on beams of light - are the target of two new cash prizes, sponsored by NASA. Winning teams will receive $50,000 in 2005 for either building the strongest strand of material or for using light to power a wireless robot up a cable. "

Dad and Diabetic Daughter
Pretty cool story..In 1999, dad invested around $18 million in a drug company to keep hope that the company's diabetic drug would get approved by the FDA and his daughter could use it. Now, the drug has been approved, his stocks are worth over $200 million and his daughter gets to take the drug. Dad "plans to pour the profits from most of these ventures into his philanthropic projects in Central America." He initially got rich by having a computer software company LightSpeed International which developed programming that allows long-distance calls to be made over the Internet. That company was sold in 1998 to Cisco Systems.
